Pictures

Whitcoulls Santa Look at this hideous Santa! Not properly shown in this picture is his moving right index finger and blinking right eye. Scary.
Ferry building Here is the old Ferry Building which houses Fuller's Ferries and two different restaurants. We had dinner our first night in Auckland at one of them, the Harbourside.
Kiwi at Auckland zoo Kiwis are night active, which makes them hard targets. Can you spot the bird?
Kiwi closeup Here is a crop of the picture above, digitally enhanced :-)
Kiwi closeup 2 And here the kiwi has moved. It trotted around, not unlike a guinea pig.
Feeding the giraffe Giraffe feeding time. You are allowed to hand-feed them from a special platform.
Rolling zebra Zebras are just like horses, they like a good roll from time to time.
Toungue's up! This giraffe likes his celery. Not showing is the really long blue tongue. It is blue so it won't get sun-burnt while the giraffe eats.
Information ahoy This is an example of the information signs posted everywhere at the zoo. Sama should use this as an example of what should also be done at Universeum.
Cleaning elephants The elephant is performing its harsh daily training programme. Included is spurting muddy water with the trunk. I wish my job was this easy.
The intelligence of apes The orangutans are clever, they use old canvas as sun screen. But if they are that smart, why just not get out of the sun and into the shade below the platforms?
Oversized guinea pig Is it a dog or is it a rabbit? No, it is a mara! A guinea pig relative, the mara is the same size as a amall dog, with long rabbit legs. The droppings are oblong, just like the guinea pig's.
